UFC 209 DraftKings Fantasy Picks
The UFC is back in action this Saturday in Las Vegas. The card is headlined by a welterweight rematch between current champion, Tyron Woodley and challenger, Stephen Thompson. Co-headlining is a great lightweight matchup between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson for the interim lightweight championship. Here’s some good plays for you when it comes to building up a fantasy lineup! Quick note, all picks besides one are extremely cheap, don’t necessarily bank on making an entire lineup from these, but rather great, solid picks at a low price.
Pick 1: Lando Vannata-$9,300
Coming off one of the most impressive KO’s in recent memory, Vannata is a solid pick here. He has impressive striking, almost finishing the co-main event star, Tony Ferguson, in the first round of their bout…Which by the way, was Lando’s UFC debut. Vannata’s opponent, David Teymur, has looked impressive himself, but I think Lando’s creativity in the exchanges will be too much here.
Pick 2: Tyron Woodley-$7,800
Well, here we are again. Many are picking Thompson in this rematch, but for some reason, I just can’t force myself to. In their first bout, Woodley showed much more tools to finish the fight than Thompson did. We saw that Stephen could win rounds by controlling the octagon and scoring points, but I just think Tyron is too powerful for the former kickboxing champion. Woodley also has many wrestling credentials that could put an end to any attacks Thompson attempts. Overall, I see Woodley forcing his game plan early, and wrapping up this fight with a second-round stoppage.
Pick 3: Luis Henrique-$7,400
Riding an impressive two-fight winning streak, Henrique is looking more impressive each time he takes center of the octagon. He is a submission specialist who really thrives on the mat. His opponent, Marcin Tybura, shares some of the same attributes, but I think he just isn’t as high level as Henrique. I see Luis being able to really control the pace of the fight and get a second-round submission in this one. And, even with him being an underdog in this one, I just think he is able to outwork Tybura.
Pick 4: Mark Hunt-$7,900 *RISKY
For our risky play for UFC 209, going with Mark Hunt seemed obvious. Hunt possesses knockout power unlike anyone else in the UFC. He has the ability to sleep Overeem with just one blow, making him a solid pick. However, Overeem can win this fight by staying on the outside and being patient, but with Alistair being known for his “glass” chin, it’s risky in it’s own right to think Overeem doesn’t get caught for an entire fifteen minutes. I think Hunt finds Overeem’s chin in the first round of their bout.
Pick 5: Tony Ferguson -$7,300
Oh boy, this fight is hard to pick. On one hand, you have a Russian that wrestles bears, that could easily dominate this fight for five rounds to get a decision. Then on the other you have a creative striker who does extraordinary things in the pocket. However, I think Khabib will finally be exposed in the striking department when he squares off against Tony Ferguson. Ferguson is just an absolute killer, and I don’t see him getting paralyzed on the ground with the Russian like all others have before. We saw khabib get rocked early by Michael Johnson, and I think Ferguson capitalizes early and gets the third-round TKO.
