Chelsea FC – FC Bayern Munich UEFA Champions League Preview

After months of competition, the UEFA Champions League final is finally upon us. In the finals will be Chelsea from the English Premier League, and Bayern Munich from the Bundesliga. The matchup may not be what many predicted, but this is still a matchup between two of the most famous football clubs in the world.

To say this Champions League Final is a surprise is quite an understatement. Chelsea has had a difficult season in the English Premier League, currently sitting in 6th place. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich is not even the best team in Germany’s Bundesliga, a league often thought to be a step below the England, Spain and Italy leagues.

Many predicted that the final would come down to Barcelona and Real Madrid, but that’s why they play the matches. These squads were able to contain the firepower of the two La Liga powers, dismissing them both in semifinal matchups.

The fact that this match will take place in Munich definitely gives Bayern Munich an edge right from the beginning. They are currently the favorite to win outright at -240. Chelsea is currently getting +200. At a neutral site, the odds would probably be much different.

This Champions League Final matchup could be a historic win for the English Premier League power. Chelsea has never won a UEFA Champions League championship in its history. The Blues are one of the most storied football clubs of all-time, so this could be a huge monkey off their back.

For Bayern Munich, it could serve as a nice consolation prize after coming up short in the Bundesliga season. They have long though of themselves as the class of Germany, so a Champions League Final win could definitely be big for their confidence.

In my opinion, the difference will be in the players who Chelsea will most likely be without. Four key players, including captain John Terry, will be unavailable for The Blues in the championship. All four of the players are forced to miss the final due to penalty cards they received earlier in the year. Bayern Munich will also be without three players due to penalties, but they are not as important to their team as those four for Chelsea.

Chelsea will be playing hard in the final, but in the end, Bayern Munich has a bit more talent on the pitch. Couple that with the home field advantage, and I think the trophy will return to Germany. The one thing Chelsea will have going for them is desperation. They are in danger of being on the outside looking in for next year’s UEFA Champions League due to its low finish in the English Premiere League. A win here would lock up their spot.

The match should open up in the second half with some goals. My bold predictions for the Champions League final are Bayern Munich 1-0 at the half and then winning the title 3-1. Chelsea and Bayern Munich has had great goalkeeping all tournament long, but I just feel like both teams will be taking more risks than normal and come out firing.

Prediction: Bayern Munich 3, Chelsea 1
