This is the second leg of a last sixteen match. The tie is decided over two matches with the team scoring the most goals qualifying for the last eight. If both teams score the same number of goals over the two matches goals scored away from home count double.
AC Milan won the first 4-0 in Italy three weeks ago. The Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, said it was one of the worst performances he had seen from his team in the sixteen years in which he has been Head Coach of the club.
However, Arsenal have responded well after such a crushing defeat and have won two massive matches since the first leg in Italy. The objective for the season is to finish in the top four of the English Premier League which earns qualification for next season’s Champions league.
Arsenal were losing 2-0 to their North London rivals, Tottenham Hotspurs, but came back to win 5-2, a crucial turnaround under the circumstances. Last weekend they beat Liverpool away from home and Liverpool are one of the other sides vying for a top 4 finish.
Arsenal will not recover from a four goal deficit to eliminate Milan. However, they have the momentum and home advantage to at least win the match against a side that has little incentive to look for goals.
